National Gallery Singapore is the country’s premier visual arts institution, home to the world’s largest public collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian modern art. It sits at the heart of the Civic District and occupies two beautifully restored national monuments — the former Supreme Court and City Hall — now transformed into a 64,000 square metre museum space.
The Gallery opened in 2015 after a decade-long restoration project. The two historic buildings it occupies have witnessed major national events, including the Japanese surrender in 1945 and Singapore’s early political milestones.
Today, visitors can admire the elegant neoclassical architecture, distinctive domes, and even a hidden 1937 time capsule buried beneath the former Supreme Court’s foundation stone.
National Gallery Singapore is located in the Civic District at 1 St Andrew's Road (former City Hall and Supreme Court buildings).
